Little River
Little River is a unique little town, with a slower pace of life than the rest of the Grand Strand. Because of its, The community lies just below the North Carolina border along the Intracoastal Waterway .... featuring numerous tidal creeks and close proximity to the ocean. Little River’s most popular event is the Blue Crab Festival, held each May ... featuring arts and crafts, entertainment, educational exhibits, and an assortment of delicious food.
North Myrtle Beach
North Myrtle Beach has nearly 12,000 residents and is known for its family beach atmosphere, fishing piers and wonderfully wide beaches. Founded more than 30 years ago when the communities of Windy Hill, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive and Cherry Grove united ...North Myrtle Beach was originally inhabited by the Winyah and Waccamaw Indians ...then the Spanish arrived in the 1500’s. The area was relatively uninhabited until after the Civil War when a railroad was constructed through the Grand Strand. Popular annual events include the SOS Spring Safari and Fall Migration and the Intracoastal Christmas Regatta. The official dance of South Carolina, the Shag, is believed to have originated in North Myrtle Beach. Each April and September "shaggers" from across the country flock to North Myrtle Beach for the festivities.
Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is one of the most visited beaches on the East Coast ... and is the largest and most developed community of the Grand Strand. Families began vacationing in Myrtle Beach more than a century ago, traveling by horse, buggy and ferry to spend a day in the sand and sun on the mostly unoccupied beach. Favorite landmarks include the Coastal Grand Mall, the largest mall in South Carolina; Myrtle Beach State Park, the oldest in the state; Broadway at the Beach, with its assortment of shops, restaurants, nightclubs and attractions; the Myrtle Beach Convention Center; hundreds of world-class golf courses and a ribbon of hotels with beautiful ocean views. Myrtle Beach kicks off each summer with the excitement of the Sun Fun Festival.
Surfside Beach
Located four miles south of Myrtle Beach, the town of Surfside Beach proudly calls itself "the family beach," and is a thriving vacation destination. Along its two miles of oceanfront one will find beach houses, condos, hotels, restaurants and a fishing pier. Surfside Beach offers several recreational parks and hosts several annual festivals and events. The Wild Water and Wheels Park is a 16-acre amusement park filled with "rides and slides" ... including 18 holes of mini-golf, bumper boats, go-carts and more. There are also 36 access points to the beautiful beach which are perfect for boating, swimming, fishing and surfing.
Garden City Beach
Garden City Beach is an unincorporated community of around 10,000 people in Horry County south of Myrtle Beach between Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet. The majority of vacationers stay in beach houses or condos ... most include breathtaking views across the tidal marshes. Garden City has access to both the ocean and the inlet ... making it a great place for fishing, crabbing and water sports. The community offers a marina, amusements, restaurants, a 668 foot-long Pier with live music during the summer evenings, and a creek walk that spans the salt marsh.
Murrells Inlet
